Laser Acne Treatment in Surrey, BC: What It Does That Skincare Can’t

Most clients who come to us for laser acne treatment at Forever True Beauty Salon in Surrey have already tried the basics. Cleansers, spot treatments, a prescription retinoid, maybe a course of antibiotics. Some have been managing breakouts for years and are tired of it.

Laser and light therapy for acne takes a different approach. Here’s what it actually does — and why it sometimes achieves what topical products can’t.

Why Topical Treatments Have Limits

Topical products — benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, niacinamide, prescription retinoids — work on or just below the skin’s surface. They help unclog pores, slow bacterial growth on the skin, and speed up cell turnover. For mild to moderate acne, they can make a real difference.

But there are things they can’t do:

• They can’t reliably reach bacteria living deep inside a follicle
• They don’t directly reduce the activity of sebaceous glands
• They can’t accelerate the healing of existing acne scars
• Applied inconsistently — which most people do, especially on the back or chest — they lose much of their effectiveness

What Laser Acne Treatment Does

At our Surrey clinic, laser acne treatment uses targeted light energy to:

1. Kill acne-causing bacteria at the source. Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes), the bacteria responsible for most inflammatory acne, absorbs specific wavelengths of light and is destroyed by them. This reaches bacteria that topical products never contact.

2. Reduce sebaceous gland activity. Less oil production means fewer blocked pores and fewer future breakouts. This is especially valuable for clients with oily skin as a root cause.

3. Calm active inflammation. Laser energy delivered to an active breakout reduces the redness and swelling faster than the skin can do on its own. This shortens the visible life of each breakout.

4. Improve post-acne pigmentation. The dark or red marks left behind after a breakout heals — post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — respond well to targeted laser treatment. Results here are gradual but meaningful.

How Many Sessions Do You Need?

Most clients need 4 to 6 sessions spaced 2 to 3 weeks apart. Active acne typically starts to visibly reduce after the second or third session. Pigmentation and scarring improve more gradually — expect 3 to 6 months for meaningful changes in texture and tone.

This isn’t a single-session fix. But for clients who’ve been managing acne for years, the cumulative results from a proper treatment series are usually well beyond anything they’ve achieved topically.

What to Expect During a Session

Sessions take 20 to 45 minutes depending on the area treated. There’s no downtime — you can go straight back to work or your regular day. Most clients experience mild redness for a few hours after, similar to a light sunburn, which settles on its own.

You’ll need to keep the treated area out of direct sun for 24 to 48 hours afterward and apply SPF before going outside. We go through the full aftercare protocol at your first appointment.
